The Home Depot, which offers store locations around the country, wants to help make community improvements for veterans. The mission of this program is to help veterans, by funding projects that will make their community better. There are no rules about what it is that will be funded, so you can use your imagination to help a veteran or group of veterans in your area. Whether you want to create a veteran memorial in your city’s center, plant some trees in their honor, or help a specific wounded veteran with something they need, this grant program may help make it happen.

How the Community Impact Grant Works

The Community Impact Grant is given out to nonprofit organizations, not individuals. Therefore, in order for you to receive it, you have to start a nonprofit organization or you need to team up with an existing one that wants to carry out a mission of helping veterans. There are numerous veterans groups in cities around the nation, and you could team up with one of them to apply for the grant and complete the project.

The company gives away grants of up to $5,000 in order to fund projects that will benefit veterans. The grants are not given as cash. Those who receive the grants will receive gift cards for The Home Depot. That way, the gift cards can be used to purchase the supplies you need to complete your community project. The gift cards can be used for building materials, tools, services, and anything else you can get from their stores that will be used to help with your project. The gift cards must be used within six months of them being issued. They will expire after that point, so it is important that you use the gift cards within the six –month time frame.

Applying for the Grant

You can submit your grant application online. There is no specific timeframe that you have to submit your application. The Home Depot takes grant applications all year long, and gives away an undisclosed number of grants to fund projects around the country.  When applying, you will have to submit a detailed project budget. You will need to explain what your project is and how it benefits the community, and especially how it helps veterans. You will also need to provide an itemized list of materials that you need, along with the estimated cost of them.

Be sure to include a list of all the materials it will take to complete the project. If you don’t put the materials on the itemized list then they may not be covered in the grant amount. If this happens, it could prevent you from completing your project, due to being short on funds.

Once you submit your application, you will hear from them within 4-6 weeks. They will inform you if you will be receiving the grant or if it has been denied. They may also contact you for additional information regarding your project or your organization. If you are awarded one of the community grants, you will need to begin working on it within 6-12 weeks, and it must be completed within six months. Keep these timeframes in mind when applying, so that you can plan it out accordingly.

The Home Depot Community Impact Grant helps veterans around the country. No matter what type of project you have in mind, if it helps veterans, you may be able to get funding to help with it. The funding awarded by The Home Depot will cover the costs of building materials, services, and other necessary items that may be needed. Now is the time to start planning on what you can do to help the veterans in your area and how The Home Depot grant could help make it happen.
