Doris Day was a famous actress who died in 2019 at the age of 97. She left a legacy of the work she did to support caring for animals. She wanted to get others involved in caring for animals, so years ago she started the Doris Day Foundation Grant. The grant helps to support people helping animals within their community. This combined effort means that there are a lot of animals being helped in every state around the country. This award continues to be given out to people in Doris Day’s honor.

About the Grant

This is a grant for those who love animals and want to make a difference for them in their community. The grant funds can be used for a wide variety of animal related issues, including spay and neuter programs, helping to find homes for rescued dogs, or helping to rehabilitate injured birds. The funds can also be used to create a pet food pantry, help pets during severe weather or after emergencies, conducting animal rescue, and more. There is a lot of opportunity for choosing the area of interest that you have in helping animals.

The grants can be given to individuals who have a plan to help animals in their community, or it can be given to organizations, helping to further their mission.  As long as you have a solid plan for helping animals in your community, you should qualify to apply for this grant. The foundation gives away numerous grants each year, with the amount of them varying. The amount of grant that you can get depends on what your project is, but the most they award to one project is typically $5,000.

How to Apply

The first step to applying for this grant is to know exactly what you will be using the funds for. You need to have a plan in place of how you will help animals in your community and how the funds will support that effort. If you are interested in applying for the grant, you need to send an introduction letter to the foundation. This letter needs to be official and give a brief introduction of who you are and what you want to do.

The letter of introduction must be sent in during specific times of the year. They only accept them during the months of January, April, July, and October. Once they receive these introduction letters they will review them and go from there to decide who they will give the grants to. Not everyone who applies with their application letter will receive an award, but numerous people do get the grant. The grants are awarded quarterly. The letter of introduction is considered to be the grant application. That application can be submitted to them online or through the mail.

If you are already part of an organization that helps animals, you can easily go through that organization to apply for this grant to further the mission. If you are not part of an organization that helps animals, you may want to start one yourself or join one. Being a part of one will make it easier for you to qualify for grants like this. The grants are generally given to organizations, rather than individual people. But don’t let that stop you from wanting to make things better for animals in your community. You can easily start your own animal-focused organization or you can team up with one that is already in existence, even if it’s on a volunteer basis.

Veterans who love animals and want to do something to help them in their community should apply for the Doris Day Animal Foundation Grant. You may be able to get the funds you need to address a specific issue or improve conditions for animals around you. You can re-apply for this grant each year if you want to continue helping animals in your city.
